Mary Bradshaw
Upper School Grammar, Writing, and Latin

Before coming to the Lexington Latin School in 2016, Mary Bradshaw taught at Bluegrass United Academic Center for four years and Trinity Christian Academy for 13 years. She has experience teaching third grade, middle school Latin, and high school French and English. She has a B.A. in English with a French minor from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. She is married to David Bradshaw, who teaches in the Philosophy Department at UK. She has found her liberal arts training to have been a solid basis for life-long learning and hopes reading great literature and writing about it will inspire her students to lead good lives.

Charles Carter

C. J. Carter moved to Lexington to attend the University of Kentucky, earning two bachelor degrees, one in English and another in Philosophy. He later earned a Master's in Teaching from the University of Kentucky. Between the two he worked for Christian Student Fellowship, doing campus ministry at UK. After receiving his master's degree he worked for a year at Bryan Station High School in Lexington, then joined the faculty of Lexington Latin School in 2018. He is married to Karla, and they have one daughter, Madelyn, and another baby on the way. He enjoys good books, good food, and mediocre golf (when he plays)

Deanna Cooper

Mrs. Deanna Cooper received her B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School. She worked as an industrial engineer for American Air Filter and as a quality engineer for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky. Mrs. Cooper joined the Lexington Latin School faculty in 2011. She has taught or is currently teaching 5th, 6th and 7th grade mathematics, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Algebra II. Mrs. Cooper lives in Lexington with her husband and three children. She likes to spend time with her family, play the flute and read.

Born and raised in Lexington, Shannon Cummins graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Biology. She later attended Austin Peay State University and earned her secondary science teaching degree. After teaching in locations around the world, due to being a military spouse for 20 years, she has settled in Lexington and been teaching at the Lexington Latin School since 2012. She is married to Jason and they have two boys, Jax and Colt, also attending the school. She enjoys traveling the country in their camper, cooking and eating.

Born and raised in Lexington, Shannon Cummins graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Biology. After working in campus ministry for four years, Rick Freeman joined the LLS staff in 2018. He holds a B.A. in English education from the University of Kentucky and an M.A. in Theological Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary. When he’s not busy being a nerd about theology or poetry, Mr. Freeman spends his days enjoying the quiet company of his wife Devon and his newborn son Samuel or staying busy in his backyard with his older son Nathan.

Mrs. Johnson earned her B.A. in Piano Performance and Mathematics from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and her M.A. in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado. She has worked as Adjunct Faculty at Transylvania University and was the Director of Music at Trinity Christian Academy for eleven years. Mrs. Johnson is a frequent collaborative pianist with area choirs including the University of Kentucky performing ensembles.

Mr. King received his B.A. in Christian Studies and Philosophy, double major, from Union University in Jackson, TN. Additionally, he holds the M.Div. and Th.M degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he specialized in Patristics. Before coming to teach at LLS in 2014, Mr. King taught at Highlands Latin School since 2008, and has also taught for the Memoria Press Online Classical Academy. In addition to teaching duties, Mr. King is also a pastor at Mosaic, Lexington. He is the husband of Lauren and the father of Gwenyth.

She owned a private nutrition consulting practice and taught Nutrition Science at the University of Kentucky, Georgetown College and Eastern Kentucky University before pursing administration at a classical, Christian School in Lexington. While there, as Director of Academics and Admissions, she also taught Rhetoric and developed the Drama program. Mrs. May joined the staff at LLS as the Director of College Planning and is currently the Upper School Dean. Mrs. May is a native Upstate New Yorker but considers Kentucky her home. She has three children, Allison, Julia, and Brenden, and resides in rural Madison County.

Lee enjoys spending time with her 2 adult children, reading, knitting, doing service work in the community and eastern Kentucky, and listening to classical and jazz music.

After her first child was born she was a full-time mom for twelve years. Mrs. Roach returned to the classroom to teach math and science for five years at The Frankfort Christian Academy and five years at the Lexington Christian Academy. She lives in Frankfort with her husband Robert. Her son David is in graduate school at Baylor. Her sons Daniel and Andrew attend Harding University and daughter Nancy is a senior at Lexington Christian. Mrs. Roach is excited to have the opportunity to teach science at Lexington Latin.
